The Community Foundation's Nonprofit Needs List generates awareness for the many services our charitable community provides and how you can be a part of those efforts, whether financially or through in-kind resources.

Donors are invited to view the specific needs of 25+ local organizations and consider financial or in-kind contributions to these important charitable causes.

Art Matters

Art Matters aims to get art supplies to children in the underserved communities in the Greater Grand Forks Area to have at home.

Arts for Vets

Arts for Vets is veterans who serve the creative community by providing a place where the whole community can participate in the creative arts and find camaraderie, mutual support and mentorship by professional artists, teachers & business community.

Empire Arts Center

Arts and Culture

The Empire Arts Center's mission is to promote culture and lifelong learning by presenting our own artistic programming while providing a distinctive, welcoming venue for the arts, businesses, and community of the upper Red River Valley.
Service Area: Grand Forks, Polk, and Walsh Counties
Needs: 2 changing tables for main floor restrooms ($450 each; Total $900), laptop computer ($860), Technical training for sound and light system ($1200).

Grand Forks Chorales

Arts and Culture

To expand the role of choral music in the cultural life of the region, to engage community members, music professionals, and students through music education and mentoring, and to enrich the lives of area residents through performance.
Service Area: Grand Forks, Polk, and Walsh Counties
Needs: Music storage bins and shelving ($450), 40 music folders ($1000), music podium ($200)

Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra

Arts and Culture

To put excellence on stage to improve lives in Grand Forks and the surrounding region. The intention of the Symphony is to excite, educate, and inspire audiences with the highest quality performances of the most beautiful music.

Muddy Waters Clay Center

The Mission of Muddy Waters is to promote and provide for the creation, education, and enjoyment of the ceramic arts in the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.
Service Area: Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, and surrounding communities.

Needs: New or Used Kitchen Cabinets, uppers and lowers to fill a 20' length of space. ($2,500} and new or used shelving ($1,500) 12", 18" or 24" in depth, 24' to 30' in length, or whatever we can get.

The shelving and cabinets will be installed in an up-stairs storage hallway that we have gained the us of after our HVAC upgrade. This space is long and narrow (38'x6') allowing us to install shelving on one side next to the wall, and cabinets under the HVAC ducting on the opposite side.

North Dakota Museum of Art

The purpose of the ND Museum of Art is to foster the aesthetic life and artistic expression of the people of the Northern Plains. The Museum commissions, conserves and exhibits visual art, and develops programs in performance, media arts and music.
Service area: Grand Forks, Polk, and Walsh Counties
Needs:  8 foot plastic (light weight) folding tables @ $85/each, total ($340), 10 Folding high top cocktail table @ $67/each  ($670), 4 Manhasset Music Stands @ 57.75 ($231.00)

North Dakota Shakespeare Festival

Our mission: To bring professional theater to the community regardless of economic status, fostered by the belief that access to the arts is a human right.
Service Area: Grand Forks, Walsh, and Polk Counties
Needs:
A reoccurring expense each year is rental Sound Equipment. We are hoping to build up our own stock so we don't have to continue renting annually. This year, we would like to purchase our own speakers and stands. We would like to purchase two Bose F1 Model 812 Flexible Array Loudspeakers ($1,199.00 each) and two Pyle Universal Speaker Stand ($34.95 each). This will minimize our rental expenses in the coming seasons. 

Northern Valley Youth Orchestras

Arts and Culture

Purpose of NVYO: to provide an exceptional musical education experience to the members of the orchestras and chamber music programs and to provide artistic performances that enrich the lives of developing musicians, our communities, and our region.
Service Area: Grand Forks, Polk, and Walsh County 
Needs:

  • 2 iPads, for reading music scores and off site instruction ($2,600)

Community Foundation of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Region

Community Engagement

University Park Neighborhoods is a collaborative organization focused on improving quality of living in north Grand Forks and strengthening our community since 2022.
Service Area: Grand Forks County
Needs:
Custom Tent for organization ($800); Portable speaker for outdoor events and summer youth programing ($90); Paper products, i.e.: Post-it Easel Pads and assorted card stock ($100). 

Grand Forks Children's Museum

Needs: a. Printer paper and toner ($149), b. iPad ($1300), c. Art supplies including paint brushes, tempera paint, permanent markers, pipe cleaners, craft sticks, and water color paint ($284)

Altru Health System

Health and Wellness

Making a difference for those we care for. Altru's Sunshine Hospitality Home is a place of comfort, compassion, and convenience for patients and their families who must travel to Grand Forks for healthcare needs.
Service Area:  Grand Forks, Polk and Walsh Counties.  The Sunshine Home services anyone traveling to Grand Forks for any type of health care need.

Needs:
The Sunshine Home is in its 6th year of operation and is in need of replacing some items as they break or wear down.  The home has 14 regular guest rooms and 3 dayrooms for use.  Rooms are similar to hotel rooms.  We rely on donations to maintain and replace all items for our guests use.
-Bed comforters ($1,200), Mini-fridges for guest medications ($270) and Lamps for guest rooms ($320)

Good Samaritan Society - Heritage Grove

Health and Wellness

Dedicated to sharing God's love through the work of health, healing and comfort.
Our service area is primarily East Grand Forks and Grand Forks. We also serve residents from rural areas in Polk/Grand Forks county and surrounding counties. 

We have a great need for a wheelchair accessible van to provide courtesy transportation within the East Grand Forks/Grand Forks city limits. Our current one is broken and is too old to fix. We are hoping to raise $50,000 and are currently close to halfway there.

We also accept donations for our care enhancement fund which is directed wherever the greatest need is within our location. Any amount is accepted and appreciated.

Grand Forks Gladiators

The mission of the club is to offer Greater Grand Forks boys and girls an inexpensive opportunity to participate in the great sport of wrestling.
The Grand Forks Gladiators Wrestling Club, serving youth athletes in Grand Forks, Polk, and Walsh counties, has grown from 82 participants in 2021-2022 to 103 in 2023-2024. With rising interest, we are seeking $10,000 to purchase a new wrestling mat to safely accommodate more athletes. These lightweight, moveable mats allow us to reconfigure practice space, making it possible to host more students, from elementary to high school, including those who travel long distances. This mat will help us scale up our training, fostering skill development and growth for youth across the region. Thank you for considering this request.

Hospice of the Red River Valley

The mission of Hospice of the Red River Valley is to provide comfort and care through life's journey.
Hospice of the Red River Valley's service area includes Grand Forks, Polk, and Walsh Counties.

Needs: Two HP 14 inch Laptops ($1,746); Meeting Owl 3 Smart Video Conference Camera, Microphone, and Speaker ($1,049); and two Acer 27 inch Office Monitors ($200).

ShareHouse

Health and Wellness

Our organization provides comprehensive substance use disorder treatment services and mental health services to not only the local community, but to several states and federally recognized Tribes. At ShareHouse, we believe that recovery is possible.
Service Area: Grand Forks

Needs Request: 51 corded atomic digital clocks ($30 each for a total request of $1,530)

Spectra Health

Health and Wellness

At Spectra Health, our mission is to enhance life through compassionate, quality care.
Service Area: Spectra Health is a Community Health Center organization with clinics located in Grand Forks and Larimore, ND that serves primarily Grand Forks County in North Dakota and Polk County in Minnesota. 

Needs:
a. $1,000 Community Engagement Outreach Event Supplies-specifically two collapsible wagons, a large trifold for displays, foldable chairs, a pull up banner and cost of translating materials into multiple languages for displays.
b. $1,000 for Supply Shelf Items (reusable bags, shelf stable food items, hygiene items-emergency items for patient care) 
c. $500-Supplies for Pediatric Clinic- stickers/temporary tattoos, Activity Supplies for annual Hands on Learning Fair) 

Albatross Indoor Golf Club

Human Services

The Buddy Classic was founded by Albatross Indoor Golf Club, as a tribute to the uncle, Godfather, and best buddy of the owner of Albatross, with the initial goal of funding a wheelchair accessible golf cart for the greater Grand Forks community.
Service Area: Grand Forks and the surrounding communities, as the wheelchair golf cart will be housed at a public golf course in Grand Forks, for all in the area to be able to use on that golf course.

Needs:
The current need is the wheelchair accessible golf cart - this cost is approximately $20,000 - we are at about $16,000 in funding currently, so we are very close. The next cart, the adaptive cart, is in the area of $35,000, for a VertaCat model, or possibly less expensive, if it ends up being a SoloRider model. Other funding will include greens fees for those people wanting to get out on the carts, as well as cart maintenance and associated expenses, as well as programming costs for groups to get people in the area out to use these carts.

Global Friends Coalition

Fostering New American integration through work with individuals, families, and the Greater Grand Forks Community.
Service Area: Grand Forks, Polk, and Walsh Counties
Needs: Folding Picnic table (for easier storage in winter) for staff to be able to eat their lunches outside in the summer; $340.00, 1 office chairs at $330.00, vinyl glass door covering with installation $230.00

Grand Forks Senior Center

Human Services

Our mission is to provide opportunities for older adults to live to their full potential.
Service Area: Grand Forks and Nelson Counties
Needs: Walk-in freezer/cooler shelving ($2,440), Refrigerated milk cooler ($4,781), Convection oven ($28,252) 

All items are to be used in our expanded kitchen (currently under construction with expected summer 2025 completion).  Demand for senior meals is up 64% since 2019.  In 2023 we served 110,365 meals out of our kitchen. As of Aug 31, 2024, meal demand has risen another 3.5% over 2023.

Love in Action

Human Services

Love in Action is a faith-based nonprofit organization who partners with local, national, and international communities to bring relief to people that are in need of support and assistance with spiritual and physical needs.
Service area is Grand Forks County and Spirit Lake Reservation, Devil's Lake, ND

Three specific immediate needs:
a. Food and disposable paper products to feed community in need (very low income/homeless) 4 days/week at $5000 (matched with donated items to reach need level)
b. Winter wear (hats, gloves, boots) Estimated $40/person X 50 people $2000
c. Money in Your Hands Project (teaching and supporting artists to utilize their creative gifts as a way to escape poverty) $2000

New Hope for Immigrants

Promote the Social well-being of Immigrant families and the youth by providing self sufficiency through employment, education, culture, social support, and economic empowerment.
Service Area: Grand Forks and Polk County

Northlands Rescue Mission

Human Services

Empowering people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or food insecurity to live more stable lives. We believe in food and shelter for all. This belief extends far beyond the Mission walls
Service Area: Grand Forks, Walsh Counties
Needs: Toilet Paper ($1,500), Winter hats and mittens for adults ($2,500), Work shoes and boots - steel toed ($1,000)

Operation Homefront

Human Services

Build strong, stable and secure military families so they can thrive - not simply struggle to get by - in the communities they have worked so hard to protect.
Service Area: Grand Forks AFB and local national guard units in the three county area
Needs:
  • School supplies for 100 school age children of military families ($2,000)
  • Grocery gift cards for 100 military families to purchase groceries - $70 gift card per family ($7,000)
  • Target or Walmart gift cards for 100 school age children of military families to purchase additional school needs required by classrooms - $25 gift card per child ($2,500)

PROJECT DIGNITY

Human Services

To restore dignity to victims of sexual assault, human trafficking, domestic violence and violent crime as soon as possible.

The Village Family Service Center

Human Services

The mission of The Village Family Service Center is to enhance the lives of those we serve.
The Village Family Service Center provides services to clients from Grand Forks, Polk, and Walsh counties.

We are undertaking the installation of power-assisted, automatic doors on the main entrance at our new Grand Forks office. Power-assisted, automatic doors will enhance accessibility for individuals with disabilities, including those using wheelchairs or mobility aids. They allow for easy entry and exit without the need to maneuver around a cumbersome, manual door.

This improved accessibility project includes the installation of two power door operators, four push buttons, power connections for openers, and new cabling as needed, which will serve anyone with limited capacity to manually open a door. The quote we received is $13,200

United Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Area

Human Services

Since 1957, United Way has helped low-income families in the Greater Grand Forks area meet their basic needs. Our programs address homelessness, hunger, and poverty, giving hope to our neighbors and work toward a brighter future for our community.
Service Area: Grand Forks County, ND and Western Polk County, MN.
